I love this photo! The look on this boy's face is priceless. I'm told this was taken circa 1945, just before walking (one mile, as the crow flies) to the first day of school. The pail he's holding is a syrup tin which contains his lunch.

My first couple of attempts at writing a piece for this were in the pretty typical bluegrass/country vein, but as I started whistling along with my ukulele one day, I kept thinking about this boy, on his first day of school and ended up with this playful little number.

Serendipitously, my dog chose to join me as I was about to begin recording, climbing up on the chair next to me. I left it in, just before the song intro.

Sometimes I make music for film/TV/games/radio. Sometimes I make music for patrons.

Most of the time I'm drinking coffee.
